There’s some pretty amazing metal up for grabs
Bonhams auction house has been responsible for putting together some of the best international car auctions in recent memory.
Not only is the sheer volume of cars they offer remarkable, the type of rare automobiles they have at their auctions defies belief, and smashes price records.
Notable price records that have been shattered at a Bonhams auction include; A Ferrari 250 GTO that sold for roughly $40,000,000 in 2014, a Porsche 550 for $8,000,000 in 2016 and a Rolls Royce Silver Ghost for $9,500,000.
Now, Bonhams’ next classic auction is upon us and its being held at one of, if not, the greatest racetracks of all time, Spa Francorchamps.
Here are our picks for the quite frankly awesome auction:
1966 Austin Mk1 Cooper

While this particular Cooper may have started life as a lowly, bog standard 998cc model, the previous owner has completely restored it to quite fantastic specification. For a start, it now has a 1275cc, 79kW (106bhp) engine fitted, it has been converted to right-hand-drive because that’s the correct side to have a steering wheel and finally, it has been fully race prepped and FIA approved for Class CT7 racing, so the lucky new owner can go straight into historic racing if they so wish.
Other specs and goodies worth mentioning include; a lightened and strengthened body shell, racing suspension, fully welded roll-cage, race spec engine with a close ratio straight-cut gearbox, a Salisbury Powr-Lok differential (3.9:1), aluminium foam-filled tank and Sparco race seat.
1978 Chevrolet Corvette

This isn’t just any old ’78 Corvette, this is a 25th Anniversary Targa Top coupe and that’s not even the special part, the thing that makes this ‘Vette truly remarkable is the mileage, or perhaps better put, lack of mileage. This 39 year old car has 56 miles on the clock! Not 56,000, 56 total, and that’s crazy. Even more amazing is the condition it’s in. Bonhams has described it as a “time-warp” example and they’re not lying, it looks like it rolled off the factory floor yesterday.
The Corvette comes with a bunch of original documentation including the original sales invoice and brochure. This ‘Vette was also well-optioned at the time thanks to it being a 25th Anniversary edition and as a result included; power windows, rear-window defog, air conditioning, cruise control, adjustable steering wheel, stereo and radio cassette, alarm system and red leather interior.
1968 Porsche 356A 1600 Super Speedster

This 356A was originally delivered new to a customer in New York and is one of less than 200 ‘Super’ examples built in ‘57 and ’58. It has been mildly race prepared during its life and has also been extensively restored by recognised specialists.
It is a simply stunning car and according to Road and Track magazine, when they tested the Speedster alongside its coupe sibling in 1956, wrote; “A more comfortable sports car for long, high-speed journeys would be very hard to find and certainly no other car achieves the combination of comfort, performance and fuel economy of the Porsche Continental Speedster or Coupé.”
