BMW G29 Z4 photos released ahead of Pebble Beach launch

Following an unauthorised image leak a few days ago, BMW has given us our first official look at the new Z roadster

Following leaked and unofficial photos surfacing on the internet just a few days ago, BMW has released its press shots of the next-generation G29 BMW Z4, ahead of the official unveiling at Pebble Beach’s Concours d’Elegance on August 23.

Both cars in question appeared in BMW’s most sports-oriented model, the M40i.

The production model retains much of its design language from last year’s concept car that was similarly unveiled at Pebble Beach 2017.

Its low-slung nose is hallmarked by BMW’s ever-growing kidney grilles – now filled with a Y-shaped mesh grille as opposed to BMW’s traditional vertical slats. The previous-generation’s front fender gill has been elongated, now stretching almost the entire vertical length of the panel, and carries a muscular swage line up the length of the car.

BMW’s classic roadster proportions remain, with a rear-cab bias placed almost-squarely between the axles, and a short rear deck rounding out the stout rear end.

BMW has already announced a straight-six powerplant, shared with the car’s mechanical cousin, the next-gen Toyota Supra which has yet to surface in final production form.

If the M40i badge is anything to go by, it’s likely to have BMW’s 265kW 3.0lt twin-turbo straight-six unit currently found in the BMW X3 M40i.

A modest increase from the previous-gen’s Z4. The top-spec sDrive35is featured BMW’s N54 twin-turbo inline-six capable of 250kW.

With many details still under wraps, we’ll have to wait until next week’s Concours d’Elegance, for our first look in the metal.
