2021 Market Review - BMW 5/6/7/8 Series 1980-2008
Bigger BMWs suffer massive depreciation as they age, however that brings opportunities for buyers prepared to wait for the right car.
Those that have done big distances with minimal maintenance aren’t going to be cheap to own no matter how low the purchase price, so budget for a quality car with service history.
Starting at the top there are excellent 840i V8s and V12 850s at less than $50,000, Seven Series limos from the 1980s-90s at under $15,000. Traditional 635CSi coupes cost more than the later 645i and the gap is growing.
If you find one of the superb M6 manuals, expect to pay upwards of $80,000. Pick of the Five Series would be a 540i/545i at $15-20,000, or a scarce 535iS manual.
528i/535i 1985-87 $12,355 [11]
535i/535iS 1988-93 $8690 [8]
540i/545i $14,100 [9]
635CSi 1983-89 $28,995 [5]
645i Coupe $26,315 [9]
735i/740il/750il $12,555 [30]
840Ci $62,445 [3]
850i $88,890 [1]
