Unique Cars magazine staffer John Bowe has had a busy week, starting with a couple of convincing wins on board the new Touring Car Masters Torana, backed by Wilson Security, and built by the Gary O’Brien’s crew at Bendigo Retro Muscle Cars. (Yep, they’re the same people who have been building our Project HQ.)

Bowe was over the moon with the result, posting this on Facebook: “What a great weekend of racing I had at Winton this weekend in Gary O’Brien’s Bendigo Retro Muscle Cars Torana SLR 5000. Winning races is nice, actually winning races in an Aussie car felt very special. Let’s face it, very shortly there will be no Australian built cars – that makes me feel pretty sad. When I was a young bloke I loved the SLR 5000, I would have killed to own one in the day to be honest.”

Look for a full build story on the car in a coming edition.

On the Monday he drove a couple of road cars for us: a Caterham Seven 485 and a Morgan Plus 4. Look for the stories in upcoming issues.

Now he is on his way to Phillip Island, to punt the mighty Flying B Racing Bentley in the GT championship round. Good luck JB!
