Bay to Birdwood

Over 90,000 spectators lined Adelaide streets to watch more than 1500 competitors, in the 2023 Bay to Birdwood run on Sunday October 22.

The 67km course wound its way from Barratt Reserve in West Beach to the Adelaide Hills and the finish line, at the National Motor Museum in Birdwood. 

Locals of all ages and car enthusiasts from around the country were attracted to the event, now in its 43rd year, with many enjoying picnics, barbecues or settling in pubs and cafes along the route to watch the cars go by.  

 Winners are grinners, best Pre-1950 went to Malcolm Adamson in his 1936 SS JaguarAirline.

At the National Motor Museum, attendees and competitors enjoyed the entertainment and festivities, with street food of many cuisines, a variety of live entertainment, Fashions on the Field, and the official Award presentations.

Michael Neale, chair of the Bay to Birdwood said: “It never ceases to amaze me how the Bay to Birdwood brings so many friends and families together; it’s one of the great joys of my life and this year was no exception. 

 Post-1950 winner was Roberto Formato, in his 1970 Mazda Cosmo Sport.

“The calibre of award entrant vehicles was outstanding, with such a diverse representation of automotive history on show,” says event director, Dane Wilden.

The Bay to Birdwood returns in 2024: Sunday October 20.
