Inside this month's Unique Cars gearbox...
1. Bathurst Ford model
It’s 1965 and Ford is determined to win the increasingly important annual Bathurst endurance race, the Armstrong 500. Barry Seton and Midge Bosworth drove the lead car, while Bruce McPhee and Barry Mulholland came second. Just as a matter of interest, Minis came in third and fourth, with another Cortina in fifth. This nicely detailed replica of the winning car is from Classic Carlectables and retails at hobby stores for around $280.
2. Bimmer jacket
There is no shortage of demand for chrome-bumper era BMWs at the moment, that’s if the auction prices are any indication.
While BMW can’t sell you a new E24 or E9, it can nevertheless tempt you with a period-style jacket. This lightly padded item revives an old BMW Motorsport logo and we reckon would be just the thing for your next Sunday cruise in the shark snout or Batmobile. It’s available through the dealer network for $495.

3. Holden Sandman watch
We reckon the main reason that cars like Holden’s legendary Sandman were put on this earth was to make us smile. Of course it was a stroke of genius to turn what was a humble delivery van into a youth culture icon, celebrating the whole sun, sea, surfing gig. Oh, and there may have been a little mattress action involved there, too. In any case Bradford Exchange has come up with a watch to go with the whole gig, mercifully priced a fair bit lower than the car, at $199.
4. Car currency
The Royal Australian Mint may not be the first place you think of when it comes to buying motor racing paraphernalia, but it seems someone over there may have a little octane coursing through their veins. The organisation has come up with a nine-coin collection of 50 cent pieces, celebrating 60 years of touring car/supercar championships. Apparently they are legal tender and can be bought for $15 each or as a set for $145 via the Mint’s third-party online shop.
5. Glenn Seton bio
Gently-spoken Glenn Seton has provided a lot of us with some pretty entertaining action across the years and now his story has come out in a biography. According to the blurb: “Seton looks back on his amazing career in this 260-plus page career
retrospective, covering the highs and lows of being both a driver and team owner
in the cut-throat world ofracing at the highest level.” Cost is $100.
6. Weld me
If you’ve been following the adventures of young Glenn Torrens elsewhere in this mag, you’ll see he’s been reviving a well-rusted VB Commodore and there has been rash talk of buying repair panels. This is exactly the sort of thing he’s on about, in this case a large VB-VL Commodore spare wheel carrier patch from the extensive Rare Spares collection. Cost is $255.
