Bana Thunderbird coming up for auction

Car played supporting role in Love the Beast

A car that featured in Eric Bana’s 2009 excellent biopic Love the Beast is listed for next month’s Shannons Melbourne auction.

It’s a mildly modified 1967 Ford Thunderbird coupe with 390 V8 and auto, and belonged to Bana’s father Ivan for many years. All up, it’s been in the family for approximately four decades.

Bana’s movie centred around the relationship he and his mates had with ‘the Beast’, the Ford Falcon XB coupe he’s owned since his teens and raced in Targa Tas.

The latter exercise had a sticky end, and the car was later revived.

As part of a wider exploration about our relationship with cars, the T-bird makes an appearance and is brought to life after sitting dormant for years.

Shannons has placed an estimate of $10-15,000 on the Thunderbird.

It’s lot 34 and goes under the hammer on December 9.
