Thumping eights head to the auction block
Shannons’ Melbourne Late Summer Classic Auction, which is set to kick off from 7pm on Monday the 19 February, has got a great many cars that we’d love to have in our garages.
We’ve already covered some of the other ace cars at this auction, whether they be thumping Fords, quirky collectors or European exotics, there really is something for everyone at this event.
Trawling through all of the lots at this great auction however, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention some of the great Aussie muscle cars that aren’t sporting a Blue Oval badge.
Here are our favourite picks:
It wouldn’t be a Shannons classic auction without a Monaro, and this gorgeous looking ’68 327 GTS is an absolute pearler judging from the photos. According to Shannons, this HK is the 16 off the line and GM’s Pagewood assembly plant, making it one of the very first examples. Shannons add that the GTS, finished in factory original Bright Blue metallic with a contrasting black interior, has travelled 98,802 miles from new and comes with all its books and service manual.
1972 Chrysler VH 770 Charger 318
There’s nothing like a good Charger, and this one appears to be the absolute business with all the right gear. For a start, this sweet VH 770 is packing a 318ci thumping V8 that would surely sound awesome, and it’s mated to the trusty Borg-Warner Type 35 three-speed automatic transmission, so it’s perfect for cruising. Shannons say the Charger also features under-dash air-conditioning and a period correct push-button radio.
Last but certainly not least is this stunning ’74 Monaro HQ GTS 308 which comes equipped with the highly desirable four-speed manual transmission. Finished in factory Aquamarine, Shannons say the HQ was completely resprayed approximately four years ago and has also had its carpets replaced. In addition, the HQ has also benefitted from mechanical refurbishments such as the 308ci V8 motor being rebuilt and the installation of a new clutch. The HQ GTS is also showing a scarcely believable 37,036 kilometres on the odometer, which equates to less than 842 kilometres a year since it was built.
There are plenty of other great cars and paraphernalia at this auction, and you can check out all the lots right here.
