Aussie Invader III – Todays Tempter

Top speed: 1026kph… let that sink in…

Today’s Tempter is a little different.

Price is POA, and let’s be honest… none of us can probably cough up that much dough.

But this has to be one of the most unique cars to ever grace our humble classifieds.

On offer from the Gosford Car Museum in NSW, is the Rosco McGlashan Aussie Invader III top speed car which unofficially set the world’s Top Speed Record in 1996.

In 1995, McGlashan became the fastest Aussie ever, clocking 1013.55kph on Lake Gairdner in this car’s predecessor, the Aussie Invader II. On the return run, of which seven kilometres of track had deteriorated due to water, the car was destroyed along with the timing gear, and the then-record was never officially set.

But while this top speed car may not fit into anything vaguely resembling your ‘normal’ car collection or collector, Gosford also has a number of other extremely valuable and diverse cars listed with us, including:

1968 Ford Falcon XT GT with only 28,270 miles – listed for $130,000

1978 Ferrari 308 GTS converted to RHD and professionally fully restored – listed for $135,000

1975 Datsun 260z in exceptional condition – listed for $29,000

1943 Willy Jeep with a 134ci inline-four and three-speed manual – listed for $24,000

Let us know what catches your eye of the Gosford cars, there’s a whole bunch that we’d love to stick in the shed at home.
