2001 & 2005 Holden CV8 & CV8Z Monaro
Sold: $130,000
Shannons
This unusual set of book-end Monaros was always going to attract plenty of attention, helped hugely by having near enough to matching paint schemes. The early car had 90km on the odometer while the last, with a Mike Simcoe signature plate, showed just 27km. Oh, and they were both manuals. Really, this was just catnip for collectors and the biggest challenge was making sure you got both of them. The pair could also be seen as setting a benchmark for the model and neither disappointed.
1971 Ford Falcon GT-HO Phase III
Sold: $930,000+
Shannons
Another Phase III sale, you say? Well, yes and no. This car was significant because back in 2007 it set an auction record of $683,650 – then a stupendous figure that stunned the market. How could that number ever be exceeded? History has shown it has been, many times. In this case the very tidy GT-HO with its distinctive orange side stripes, saw bidding pause at $930k – presumably a little under reserve. The car has since been sold at a higher number, though the exact figure has been kept confidential.

1973 Holden Torana LJ GTR
Sold: $162,036
Grays
This retina-searing GTR got lots of attention and not just for the Strike Me Pink hue. Under the paint was a really interesting and accomplished conversion with a 308 V8 an M21 four-speed transmission, XU-1 fuel tank, Banjo diff and Globe Sprint Masters Holden played with a handful of prototypes like this as race cars, before the LH V8. It went for solid money, and worth the spend.
1987 Ferrari Testarossa
Sold: $420,000
Shannons
Hands up everyone who was given a Ferrari for their 40th birthday? Sir Elton John was – this one. A gift from MCA records. It was sold by Christie’s from the singer’s collection in 2001 showing 7434 miles on the clock and now indicates a mere 10,733 miles.
