2022 Porsche 911 GT3 special – today’s auction tempter

Australia-focussed collectible

When it comes to collectible Porsches, the GT3 series tends to be spoken about in almost reverential tones among would-be collectors.

We suspect owning this limited edition version would, for some, be a near-religious experience.

It’s an Australia-focussed car, produced in tiny numbers (25) to mark 70 years of Porsche in this country. While it would be easy to dismiss this as a marketing exercise, local Porsche distribution has a great history behind it.

In an interview with local industry legend Alan Hamilton, Mark Higgins wrote: “Porsche was born in 1948 and just three years later an Australian pump manufacturer acquired the Australian franchise after a chance meeting in a café in Switzerland.” See the full story here.

According to auction house Collecting Cars, the virtues of this variant include:

  • The GT3 Touring ‘70 Years Porsche Australia Edition’ was limited to just 25 delivered examples to commemorate the 70-year anniversary of the brand’s presence in Australia, all of which were finished in Fish Silver Grey metallic in recognition of the very first Porsche shipped to Australia.
  • In addition, all 25 Australian delivered examples feature over Au$90,000 worth of Exclusive Manufaktur options above the standard GT3 Touring; including unique badging, a bespoke interior colour scheme of Graphite Blue with Madraskaro Check cloth inserts, a painted key with interior-matched pouch, and a ‘70’ embossed armrest cover.

Basic stats include a 4.0lt flat six claiming 375kW (502hp), tied to a six-speed manual transmission. This example claims under 800km on the odo – see it here.
