Craig Dean’s Melbourne-based Mustang Motorsport has long been the place to get more gallop for your ’Stang, as the Australian Roush performance products distributor
With the achievement of being number one international Roush dealer in both 2016 and 2017 under his belt, he’s been granted a licence to produce a limited run of the tuning house’s formidable Stage 3 (RS3) Mustang, basically a burger with the lot.
The introduction of the RS3 here is seen as a significant step for the Roush brand internationally and something of a coup for Mustang Motorsport.
Previously an American domestic model, the RS3 Mustang is billed as the ultimate in American muscle cars, with race performance, handling and braking, while retaining much of the comfort and refinement of the standard car.
The blower is the big news, boosting performance to 492kW or more
Under the bonnet is the ‘Roush-charged’ 5.0lt V8 that claims 670 horsepower (492kW) courtesy of the Roush Performance R2300 TVS supercharger. According to Dean, with the right driver and tyre combination, a ten-second quarter-mile elapsed time is a real possibility.
And if that isn’t enough grunt under your right foot you can always tick the optional 727 horsepower (534kW) box.
The 2017 RS3 Mustang comes with a seven state and territory legal ADR engineering compliance and is backed by a three-year/60,000 limited warranty.
Pricing for the RS3 Mustang kit will be announced on March 9 at the launch to be held at the Phillip Island Motorsport Festival, where special Roush Director of Engineering and Product Development, Robert Brown, Strategy and Vehicle Line Manager Kevin McLaughlin and Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing Tony Marszalek will be in attendance.
