Hero coupe
While you may be more used to see the AMG name attached to a hotted-up Benz, the launch of the GT series signaled a whole other level for anyone with the desire and wallet to match.
It came out of a period when parent company Benz was willing to take to some risks on premium coupes, including this and the even more extreme Gullwing SLS series.
With prices pegged at mid-$200k and above, AMG was able to offer a family of at least six models out of the GT mould.
This, the GT Edition 1 is among the more exclusive, with 375 made.
Under the snout is a 375kW (502kp) dry-sump twin-turbo 4.0lt V8 with seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
The series has been on the collector radar from day one.
This example is with Young Timer Garage in Melbourne, priced at $224,990.
