Retro Blue Meanie tribute
If you’re fortunate enough to have a VE Commodore SS, one of the more enticing options for an upgrade is go the HDT route to build a retro ‘Blue Meanie’ tribute.
These of course hark back to the original VK Group A cars of the 1980s, which represented the high point for the original Brock-era HDT.
Some decades down the track, the Peter Champion-owned HDT decided to revive those times with a modern car, namely the VE series Commodore and then the VF. The attraction is of course you get a more modern car with all the performance benefits that go with it.
Grays has a VE conversion up for auction. It’s a 2012 car, originally an SS, which has all the ‘Blue Meanie’ war paint and bodywork, including the 19-inch Aero-style wheels.
The seller says the engine has been enhanced and now claims a lively 395kW (530hp). It’s an auto, with around 185,000km on the odo. See it here.
