2008 Birkin Clubman – today’s tempter

Ford-powered Lotus replica

The dual appeal of building your own car and having something that makes a reasonable claim to be a modern-day Lotus 7 means clubman cars like this have survived despite the march of technology.

Birkin is a South African whose product is sold here through a local distributor.

It lays claim to being reasonably faithful to the look of a Lotus 7 with updated chassis technology, including independent rear suspension.

In this case power is supplied by a Ford Zetec 2.0lt inline four, matched to a five-speed manual transmission.

The seller says it has been through engineering inspection for the road, in Western Australia, and comes with an extensive history file.

Located in south Perth, it’s on the market at $33,000
