2006 Ford Falcon XR6 – Todays Tempter

One of the highest watermarks for the Aussie Blue Oval, for an absolute steal

The third-generation Falcon was a world class car, and many claim it as one of best locally developed cars ever.

With a venerable Barra inline-six designed and engineered right here in Oz, with Blue Oval legends like the late Howard Marsden and Gordon Barfield tied to its name, the XR6 (and even more so its turbo counterpart) was a capable, smooth and comfortable full size sedan.

Design-wise it was a far more handsome shape, especially over the previous AU Falcon, and still looks the goods today.

In base XR6 trim, the Barra was capable of 184kW when new, and had the option of both manual and automatic options.

This 2006 XR6 is on offer from Pennant Hills Auto Trader, for just $7,990.

At that price point, we reckon the full size sixer is a great value buy, with plenty of classic pastiche in a thoroughly modern package.

It’s got 233087kms indicated on the odometer, but these cars are near-bulletproof with proper maintenance. The interior still looks to be in good condition, with no visible tears or marks, though there is some visible surface wear on the front seat materials.

Pennant Hills purports the car comes with long registration and log book history.

Many third-gen Falcons have suffered a rough life, but this one looks to be in honest and fair condition, with only a small visual mark on the front passenger corner.

It’s no concours grade car, but for anyone looking for a full-size sedan workhorse, the price could be right with this one.
