Last of the breed and still one of the most attractive Lions in recent history
Our own Mark Higgins recently bought his own Monaro Coupe, a 2002 CV8 Automatic, and he’s chuffed!
And why wouldn’t you be?
The VX-based Monaro is still one of the best looking Holdens this side of the millennium, and stunned the automotive landscape at its concept unveiling in 1998.
Upon release, the CV8 received a Gen III 5.7lt V8 with the choice of a 6-speed manual or 4-speed auto. The supercharged 3.8lt CV6 was only available in auto and was pulled from the lineup in 2004 on the account of poor sales.
Following a small facelift in 2004, Holden announced the impending death of the Monaro Coupe in 2005, sending it out with a limited edition model dubbed the CV8Z.
Our sister mag Wheels, put the CV8Z through the ringer back in 2006 against the Mustang GT and Nissan’s 350Z Track. The Monaro shone against its foreign coupe counterparts, with “seductive comfort [and] sledgehammer acceleration at a truly remarkable price” – it was a glowing verdict for our home-grown hero.
This NSW-based car is one of the last run of CV8Zs to farewell the Monaro nameplate – which after Holden’s closure of local manufacturing last year – we’re unlikely to ever see again.
Purportedly, this car was the seller’s wife’s daily driver, with 167,000kms and service history.
CV8s are usually listed at high-$20,000s to mid-$30,000, and this car could be the pick of the litter.
It is the only CV8Z listed with us right now.
The car is listed at $30,000 and you can check out the full listing here.
