2003 Mercedes-Benz CLK55 – today’s tempter

AMG V8

There’s a big back-catalogue of high-end Benz and AMG cars which represent a lot of bang for the buck, and the CLK55 is one.

In a previous story on this series we noted: “power came from a hand-made 5.4lt V8 which featured things like a forged billet crankshaft, forged and weight-matched connecting rods and pistons and lightweight chain-driven single overhead camshafts.

“All this meant that the stonking great V8 was good for 255kW and 510Nm and would propel the CLK55 from rest to 100km/h in a mere 5.4 seconds before hurtling on towards a top speed of 250km/h.

“The prodigious oomph from the V8, codenamed M113, was sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.”

This example claims to have a full Benz service history and has under 37,000km on the odo.

It’s with TCB Bespoke near Melbourne, priced at $59,990.
