2002 Holden Statesman WHII – Todays Tempter

Time-capsule 5.7lt V8 Statesman: 1,126kms, been in storage since new

The WH-generation of Holden Statesman and Caprice were long-wheelbase luxury models based on the VT Commodore.

Engine options remained the same as the greater Commodore range: two version of the 3.8lt Ecotec V6 (naturally aspirated & supercharged), or the 5.7lt Gen-III V8.

A wider track aided mid-corner stability and four-channel ABS Disc brakes were amongst the developments found under the skin; while niceties such as independent climate and stereo controls for the rear passengers and flip down tables were found in the leather-swathed cabin.

The 2000’s midlife-cycle update brought the long-wheelbase Statesman closer in line with the newer VX in componentry and finish, whilst also delivering a 5kW power bump for the V8.

This 2002 WHII Statesman comes to market as a virtual time-capsule from whence it rolled out of the dealership 18 years ago.

A one-owner example with just 1,126kms on the odometer: the car has recently been removed from storage where it has been sitting dormant for the pat 18 years.

The dealership offering the car on behalf of the owner state that the car still bears its new car smell, all original factory and quality control markings, purchase receipts, log books and service history.

Whilst more modern Holdens are increasingly enjoying surging interest, 80s and 90s especially; we haven’t observed that same interest trickle down to the more millennial models as of yet. That’s not to say it won’t happen ever; but WH Statesmans aren’t exactly the most in-demand collectibles right now.

It’s almost certainly an unrepeatable example in fantastic condition, but the question will be whether the buyer they are looking for is out there.

The time-capsule Statesman is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $38,500.
