2002 Holden Monaro CV8 – Todays Tempter

Originally a Holden Dealer Principal’s car, owned since late-2002: full history, unmodified and low-kms

Holden’s reborn Monaro, based on the VX platform, shocked the public in concept form at the 1998 Sydney Motor Show. Holden hadn’t actually intended to bring the Monaro back to production but the resounding feedback and fanfare forced their hand.

The sharp-looking coupe is one of Holden’s greatest contemporary designs, and was produced between 2001 and 2006 during which it would spawn numerous different variants including some great HSV-tuned vehicles.

Initially, buyers had to choose between the supercharged 3.8lt CV6 (exclusively with an automatic gearbox) or the Gen-III 5.7lt V8 CV8 with either a six-speed manual or four-speed auto. The CV6 was removed from the line up amidst a 2003 facelift due to poor sales.

A few years ago, the V2 Monaro was pretty keen buying although signs that prices were beginning to shore up were observed throughout 2019.

This 2002 CV8 misses out on the desirable six-speed gearbox, instead specified with the four-speed auto. It has great history and a little bit of provenance as it was originally delivered to Mr. McGrath, the Dealer Principal of McGrath Motors in January 2002.

The seller purchased the car in September of 2002 and has owned it since. The car’s odometer reads a low 93,816kms from new. Fully documented history includes log books, purchase receipts, service receipts and original books and manuals. The car has been recently subject to a service and detail, and remains unmodified aside from the updated facelift CV8 wheels.

It’s a great example of an iconic Australian model.

You can find it based in New South Wales and listed for $32,500.
