Sporty six
If ever there was a model that epitomises BMW’s long relationship with inline six engines, it has to be the E46 M3.
In any one of its several forms, it’s a quick and tactile drive that leaves a lasting positive impression.
As we note in a story on the series: “The E46 M3, launched locally in June 2001, was one of the most capable M3 models for everyday use. Its 3246cc in-line six delivered 252kW at 7900rpm, and had most of its 365Nm available from 2000rpm.”
We also have a John Bowe guest drive in a CSL version, which is worth seeing here.
Collecting Cars has a 2002 M3 up for auction. It’s running a 3.2lt six with six-speed automated manual transmission.
