European luxury flexes its muscles
The Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG is a performance oriented coupe and convertible that was produced between 2000 and 2002.
Based off the W208/C208 CLK, the 55 was heavily fettled by the boffins from AMG in Affalterbach.
Power came from a hand-made 5.4lt V8 which featured things like a forged billet crankshaft, forged and weight-matched connecting rods and pistons and lightweight chain-driven single overhead camshafts.
All this meant that the stonking great V8 was good for 255kW and 510Nm and would propel the CLK55 from rest to 100km/h in a mere 5.4 seconds before hurtling on towards a top speed of 250km/h.
The prodigious oomph from the V8, codenamed M113, was sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission.
The chassis of the car was also modified to complement the engines sporting intentions. The spring and damper rate was uprated and larger diameter anti-roll bars were installed, as were stiffer suspension bushings.
This particular CLK55 AMG is a ’01 model and, according to the seller, has travelled 126,000 kilometres from new.
The seller also adds that the vehicle is a personal import and is in good condition with a full service history.
The CLK55 AMG is $17,990 and anyone interested in this Germanic, four-wheeled missile can view the full listing here.
