In the latest edition of Morley’s Workshop, a reader wrote in asking about the best affordable luxury/prestige daily drivers.
With a budget of $10-$15K: Morley’s resounding pick was an old Lexus LS, ideally an early 2000s LS 430 with its silky smooth 4.3lt 3UZ V8. It’s a bulletproof donk capable of running up the odo to seven figures before needing major work, and Lexus maintained its impeccable reputation of build quality and reliability through the 90s and 00s, a period where the Germans – at times- dropped the ball.
But if the Lexus is too common for you, check out this 2000 Toyota Crown Majesta.
A full-size sedan, the Crown incorporated various influences from its luxurious Lexus cousin. It had a slightly smaller, 4.0lt 1UZ V8 and was equally as tech-driven receiving optional features like four-wheel steering. It was common to see high-ranking businessmen behind the wheel of a Crown, and this was the car chosen as the official company car for senior-level Toyota management.
This Toyota Crown Majesta the lower trim Type A model, receiving a wool-like interior instead of leather. It also missed out on standard features like air suspension, and power rear seats.
But this one’s only got 76416kms indicated on the odo, and is on offer for $13,990.
The car’s interior looks to be in great condition, and the exterior is dressed up with a subtle body kit and some pretty tough looking wheels.
The car is on offer via Bespoke Motors in Victoria.
