2000 Ford GT40 tribute – today's tempter

There was a time when building Ford GT40 tribute cars was an international industry. Though that was cooled down somewhat when Ford produced its own.

The story behind the GT40 is well-known, where Ford in the 1960s tried to buy Ferrari, failed and went on to develop its own race car to tackle the Le Mans 24 Hour. Of course there is more to the drama.

For example, our feature reveals: “Ford brought in Carroll Shelby – who had worked miracles in creating the Cobra-Ford and beaten Ferrari in GT racing – to take over. He managed GT40’s maiden international win in the Daytona 24-hour race that year.”

This tribute car is a factory build by Roaring Forties in Australia and is said to have very low miles.

Its driveline includes a 5.0lt Windsor V8 and five-speed transaxle.

The Healey Factory in Melbourne has it on the market for $199,950.
