1998 Chevrolet Corvette – today's tempter

The Corvette name has now been with us literally for generations and, over that time, has been attached to some exciting machinery.

While the launch of the C5 was delayed, the wait appeared to be worth it.

In a feature on the series we note: “The C5 was a revelation. Perfect 50:50 weight distribution, torsional stiffness five times greater than the C4 and stacks of room inside for two people and their luggage, a slinky 0.293 Cd drag factor with the headlights lowered, the punchy 345hp aluminium-block LS1 V8 up front and, for the first time on a Corvette, a rear transaxle. From 1999 there was even a fighter-jet style head-up display that projected key information onto the base of the windscreen.”

This example is running the LS1 powerplant, matched to a four-speed automatic transmission.

Classic & American Imports in Adelaide has it on the market for $50,900.
