BT1 police pack car, sold new to CFA, owned since 1998: in good condition throughout and in roadworthy-condition
The VS Holden Commodore arrived in 1995 as the last iteration of the generation which began with the VN of 1988.
Launched perhaps as a sales stopgap model before the all-new VT landed in showrooms, the VS didn’t look radically different to the outgoing VR; but the big news came under the bonnet for the V6 models.
The newly-improved 3.8lt V6 was dubbed the Ecotec, and yielded a significant 17kW increase while sipping 5% less fuel. Automatic cars were fitted with a smoother-shifting 4L60E automatic gearbox, and a passenger-airbag was available for the first time in an Australian car.
While six-cylinder VS’ may not be everyone’s idea of a collectible, this one looks quite interesting, and cheap!
The Diablo Red VS here is reportedly a factory BT1 police pack car (denoted on compliance plate), and was purchased by the seller in 1998, with 30,000kms on the clock, from a CFA manager. Original log books list the original owner as the Country Fire Authority.
The car looks to be in very good condition throughout and is currently registered, with the seller undertaking various recent works to obtain a current RWC. The car has recently received a full service, new brake pads, panhard bushes, radiator, stater motor, battery, windscreen, power steering pump, and four new tyres.
The notoriously sun fade-prone red paint shows great lustre while the interior looks to be in fantastic condition for its age.
The seller does point out that the odometer stopped working around 18 months ago at 262,368kms, but states that the car has hardly been driven since and has spent most of the time garaged and under a cover.
You can find the car in Victoria, listed for $6,500.
