Tommy Lim talks about his R32 Nissan GT-R
Tommy Lim’s Nissan GT-R R32
It was about two years ago that I got this car. It’s an R32 Nissan GT-R. I imported it from Japan in a pretty much stock condition.
The first thing I did was lots of preventative maintenance and gave it a big look over to make sure the car was perfect.
I bought it because I’ve always really liked GT-Rs, like most people I guess. It’s a very versatile car; it is good in the city but can also tackle mountain roads just as well.
I plan to upgrade to a bigger turbo very soon. It has a stock turbo setup right now but because it has been tuned with an aftermarket ECU, it is still pretty quick. At the drag strip it runs 12s with the right launch. I really don’t need more power, but that is the thing; no matter how fast your car is you eventually get used to it and start searching for more speed. It is an addiction I think.
I recently installed some Yokohama ADVAN AD08R tyres which have helped the car in the mountains, when the road is dry at least. When the road is very wet, the ADVANs get slippery, so I have to be careful when the weather is changing.
A lot of people tell me to lower it and get some bigger wheels but I want to keep the original look. I like the way it looks from factory. I drive it almost every day so the less I change, the less likely the car is to break.
