Very tidy-looking VR SS in great condition for its age: auto, mechanically sound, unmarked interior
The VR-series of Commodore represented a fairly significant visual facelift over the popular VP, with only the roof and door skins being carried over.
The VR wore softer curves with improved aerodynamics; and while the basic mechanical package remained largely unchanged, great improvements were made to packaging and safety.
The pack, which included ABS, IRS and a driver’s side airbag (the first Australian-built car to offer), was fitted as standard from the Acclaim model and up, while remaining optional on the base Executive.
Elsewhere there were webbing clamps added to the front seats, and an added lap/sash seat belt for the central rear passenger seat, plus a new automatic transmission and a minorly improved V6.
This SS we spotted on the market of course features the 5.0lt V8, and is specified here with the four-speed auto.
It looks to be very well-maintained and is described by the seller to be in beautiful condition for its age, and to be in mechanically-sound driving condition.
The interior is described as like new, with no rips or tears observed. Finished off by the ever-popular Simmons FR wheels, the VR SS makes for a great contemporary weekend cruiser.
You can find this one based in New South Wales, and listed for $22,000.
