Rare Japanese-only 170kW AWD Pulsar GTiR: 'Baby Godzilla' in excellent original condition
Australia was no stranger to domestically-sold turbo hot hatches, but the Nissan’s Japanese-only Pulsar GTi-R arrived in small numbers over the years as grey market imports.
It was a potent pint-sized hatch produced as a genuine Group A WRC homologation special. With it came a slightly detuned SR20 turbo four-pot coupled with Nissan’s ATTESA four-wheel drive system found in the bigger GT-R.
With a kerb weight of 1240kgs, the 170kW pocket rocket could sprint to 100km/h in just 5.4 seconds.
Arriving at the peak of cheap Japanese imports, the GTi-R was ripe for modifiers which leaves good original examples nigh on non-existent.
This 1993 model may be the outlier, as we certainly haven’t seen such a close-to-factory example in many years.
The GTi-R on sale here is described in the listing as the “best original” example on the market; with OEM floormats, airbox, driver’s side knee rest and wheels. The only aftermarket addition we can identify is a non-original (though still period correct) CD stereo.
The listing even points out that the parcel shelf has never even had holes drilled through it – which, if you lived with these Japanese tuners through the 90s and 00s Autosalon/show car era, is frankly incredible.
The car presents with excellent paint, visually untampered-with engine bay, and a well-kept interior in overall good condition (no dash bubbles that infamously plague 90s Nissan interiors).
Also recently fitted is a new battery and new Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 tyres.
The car is based in Victoria and is listed for $19,650.
