The W140 generation of Benz S class has developed a remarkable folklore about it, most famously for its never-to-repeated build quality.
Top Speed in the UK notes: “Back in the day, generally, all Mercedes-Benz products were renowned for their solid tank-like build quality. However, when it came to the W140 S-Class, it was clearly evident that even Mercedes-Benz had pushed its boundaries and over-engineered the S-Class to another level altogether.”
The S500 ran a 5.0lt V8 powerplant claiming 240kW (322hp) tied to a five-speed automatic transmission. Despite a significant price hike for this generation, Benz sold over 400,000 of them.
This example is with John Conroy in Brisbane, priced at $29,990.
