1992 HSV VP GTS – today’s tempter

Limited edition

Australian cars out of the 1990s were for a long time in some sort of no-man’s land when it came to collector interest. However that has been changing in recent years though cars like this HSV are nevertheless still offering a lot of bang for the buck.

In a feature on the VN-VP series Commodores, Glenn Torrens noted that Holden had finally returned to making full-size models: “The result was a uniquely Australian car; an Aussie-tough, aerodynamic and big new Commodore that by 1988, put Holden back into a fair fight with its foe, Ford’s Falcon, for the hearts and minds – and money – of Australian car buyers.”

The advertiser of this HSV notes: “With the VP Commodore in 1992, HSV reintroduced the GTS brand for the first time into their model range since 1977 and Ford reinvigorated the GT model with the EB GT Falcon, a hiatus of nearly 20 years. So two of the most famous street/racing breeds in Australian motoring were back on the roads.”

This example in Anthracite Grey claims to be one of just 130 of this model. It runs a 200kW version of the 5.0lt V8 and runs a four-speed auto. Build number 48, it claims 220,000km and is said to be in very good condition. It’s with Australian Muscle Car Sales in Sydney at $50,000.
