With limited-run Aussie heroe cars booming, this VP GTS could see plenty of upside in years to come
Built in limited numbers from September 1992 to December 1992, the VP HSV GTS saw only 130 vehicles off the production line.
It’s a fair bet to say there’s even fewer still surviving today, which could see this honest example with plenty of upside in the future years as rare Aussie hero cars continue to gain steam.
Only available in three colours, charcoal, red and white: Alaskan White examples such as this seem to be the second scarcest colour, with only 27 examples according to our research.
25 left the factory in Maranello Red, with Anthracite Grey making up the largest chunk of the production pool, with 78 reported examples.
Visually, the VP GTS’ body kit closely resembled the VN Commodore SS Group A SV with the same front and rear bumpers, and side skirts, but gained the HSV Senator 5000i’s front grill and boot spoiler.
Under the bonnet, the VP GTS’ engine block was shared with the VN and VL Group A cars, with specific pistons, roller rockers, larger lifter bores, as well as D port heads and various Group A derived parts among others. Capable of 200kW when new, the VP GTS saw triple digits on the speedo in 7.45 seconds from a standstill.
This VP GTS looks to have lead an honest used life; with 200,000ks listed in the ad the car wasn’t parked in a garage as an investment.
The interior looks very presentable, with noticeable wear on the steering wheel, though what can be seen of the dash looks crack free.
The exterior however, looks rather well-cared for. All decals are in place and are largely free of peeling, fading or cracking; paint presents well in photos, and the car still bears the original 5-spoke Roh wheels.
VP GTS’s don’t come up for sale very often, so there isn’t much precedent to benchmark the $39,900 asking price. However, limited-run Aussie cars are in high-demand and the VP has largely flown under the radar in collector circles.
While we’re sure you guys will have your own opinions on the VP’s asking price, people are paying that much for Kingswoods these days – so where this rare find sits in the market is anyone’s guess.
