Original Atlas Grey paint, motor and T5 manual; rust free, 179,000kms
It was years ago that we had Joe Kenwright write home about why the VN SS makes sense as a proper future classic.
It was a proper and capable sports sedan with Holden’ then-new uprated 5.0lt V8 which, while yielding 165kW at 4400rpm, was also 15kg lighter than the basic EA Falcon six-pack.

The powertrain was as smooth as butter, and refined as well – setting a new benchmark for V8 fuel economy at the time.
But years ago, when they were cheap and underrated, they were already getting hard to find. Now, they’re not so cheap – and good examples are even scarcer.
Surging interest in Aussie V8s over recent years has seen a significant revival of interest in the modern classic VN; and they will surely remain a popular attraction at any All Holden Day for years to come.
This VN SS comes to market in largely original condition: coated in its original Atlas Grey paint, with its numbers-correct 5.0lt V8, and T5 manual gearbox.
The seller states that the car has covered a genuine 179,000kms from new with receipts for recent works.
The car is rust and damage free with working air-conditioning and original trim and carpets inside. It does however come fitted with an aftermarket steering wheel, gear knob, stereo and speakers, and later-model HSV wheels.
The bones are all there however; with red striping and decals showing great clarity, and an interior free of noticeable cracks, tears or wear.
Just hunt down the original steering wheels and interior pieces, and you’re golden!
