V8 manual
It was one of the market’s little surprises in the last decade: The sudden rise of VN SS Commodores as collectibles. It was a rapid change of status and even now there will be former owners out there wondering at their decision to sell ‘that old Holden’.
Five years ago we featured a restoration of one, then ahead of the market curve by a few years. As Cliff Chambers noted on the model’s background: “An economy threatening to collapse under the weight of double-digit interest rates wasn’t the place to be selling cars intended to entertain rather than provide basic transportation.
“New in 1989 an SS Commodore automatic cost $28,000. but by 1991 when the VN was replaced the VP version was priced at more than $33,000.”
Finding good survivors can be tricky, however this looks like it might be one. Advertised with a shade under 180,000km, it’s in Atlas Grey with the 50lt V8 and five-speed manual transmission.
Located in Melbourne, it’s on the market at $44,000.
