1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa – Todays Tempter

Investment-wise, air-cooled 911s have become their own form of precious metal

It’s no secret that air-cooled 911s are now a bona-fide investment asset, with recent reportings that the classic Porsches in Germany have appreciated at rates higher than Germany’s main stock index.

Yes, that’s right; while some people may invest in gold, silver or platinum, air-cooled 911s have pretty much become their own form of precious metal.

And for good reason too! They’re lauded for their driving experience and sporting prowess, and are phenomenal cars. But as the air-cooled frenzy has grown over the past few years, and every new-money retro hipster has flocked to them – these cars are continually being priced out of reach for the rest of us car-folk.

This 1988 911 Carrera Targa however, may offer a little more value for someone looking to enter the fabled Stuttgart ownership experience.

Prices vary wildly for this year’s models – with ’88 911s fetching anywhere from $60,000 to $100,000. Some of the higher-priced cars have had rather extensive work put into them… but some of them certainly haven’t either.

This car, priced at $65,000 is a little more refreshing in the face of some other more lucrative sales.

A gorgeous targa model, in white; it has the 3.2lt flat-six with a highly desirable five-speed manual.

It looks to be in largely original condition save for an aftermarket security system and Cd plater/radio.

The seller states that the car has never been restored and never raced, but has always been garaged and maintained regardless of expense.

The car looks to be in fair condition with the exterior looking free of any faults. The car looks to have been cared for given the spotless door jambs and engine bay. The interior’s condition matches the 200,000km odometer reading, with some cracking and wears on the seats but overall looks like an honest fair example.

For those looking to enter vintage 911 ownership, this car may be worth investigating if you’re prepared to spend a little money on top to freshen it up if need be.

The car is based in QLD, and will come with RWC and rego – you can check out the full listing here!
