Very original and well maintained SVD GTS1: 185 of 200
Collectible Australian-delivered Nissans were once a niche breed, best headlined by the first 100 ADM R32 Skyline GT-Rs.
Years prior however, in the early 80s, Nissan decided to release the Skyline locally to weigh in on the emerging six-cylinder wars between Holden and Ford.
While Mark Skaife and Jim Richards were rubbing shoulders with your Brocks and Johnsons in factory-backed R31 Skyline GTS-Rs, Nissan launched the Special Vehicles Division (SVD) in 1988 with a limited run of 200 Nissan Skyline R31 SVD GTS’.
The Silhouette-based SVD Series 1 may not be as popular as the red GXE-based Series 2 car they later released in mid-89, but are markedly rarer.
The SVD GTS1 featured the same 3.0lt RB motor as the VL Commodore, and was only available as a five-speed manual. The GTS had bigger front struts, Bilstein shocks front and rear, and larger brakes from the GTS-R.
This SVD Skyline is number 185 out of the 200 Series 1 SVDs produced.
The listing describes it as a “very original and well maintained” example. The body is reportedly rust free and straight, with the driveline and interior in good condition with all factory original components.
Overall, the car presents honest and decent, but could use some TLC in its paint work, side mouldings, emblems and other small areas. Otherwise, it looks all there, and could be a neat turn-key project to chip away at while cruising happily on weekends.
The car has 259,000kms on the odo, and comes with Log Books and Owner’s Manual.
