Two owner country car, rare unmodified example.
The VL Commodore arrived in showrooms in early 1986 with production ending in 1988.
Succeeding the VK, the VL wore a significant makeover, with a slimmer snout and thinner headlights giving the car a thoroughly modern look for the time.
Its major point of contention however was its imported Japanese heart.
Amongst the 5.0lt V8 option, owners could select the inline-six option which – shockingly at the time – came from Nissan. The RB30E, a larger displacement descendant from the legendary RB engines that powered the R-chassis Nissan Skylines, was available in either naturally aspirated or turbocharged guise.
Most buyers selected the automatic transmission, available in either three or four-speed. But a five-speed manual could be ordered, and delivered after a six-eight week wait.
This VL Executive is fitted with the naturally aspirated RB30, with the four-speed auto.
It looks extremely clean, and a rare unmodified example. The tan interior presents no tears or rips.
