1988 Holden Commodore VL BT1 – today’s tempter

RB30 six

The BT1 badge on a VL Commodore is like a GT badge on a Falcon, it immediately triples the interest of any prospective buyer. Although in this case it indicates a cop-spec rather than a GT.

This example isn’t painted the hallmark Absinth Yellow colour and nor does it carry the turbocharged version of Nissan’s legendary RB30 inline six.

If it were, you would be looking at a very different price bracket, as we’ve seen collectors pay astounding prices for the garish ‘chaser’ versions.

This car is nevertheless a tidy-looking VL Commodore which isn’t a common sight these days. Many by now have been modded to sometimes extreme lengths, and some owners have now found themselves winding back all those hard-won changes.

It claims 290,000km on the clock and the Vic-based owner is asking $65,000.
