1987 Holden VL Berlina Turbo Series II – Reader Ride

Lube Karanfilovski's VL Commodore

“What got me into VL Commodores? Good old Thomastown (northern suburbs of Melbourne) – it was VL heaven from 1988 onwards as soon as the ex-cop cars hit the auctions. It got flooded with Interceptors, Executives and the Calais – they were everywhere.

“There are still a few good ones out there.”

Lube has owned this car twice. He first sighted it around 2007, being driven on a freeway by the proverbial little old lady with a for sale sign in the back window. There was nothing he could do about it on the day, but he tracked it down months later through the classifieds after another owner put it up for sale.

The car ended up going when he and his girlfriend bought a house. Somewhere along the way, the car was given a freshen-up. Late 2017, Lube tripped over the car again at an All-Holden day and started hassling the owner to sell.

That stand-off lasted a couple of years until Shane the owner offered it to Lube who had no hesitation in grabbing it. “It’s brand-new to drive and I’m very happy to have it back,” he said. We can believe it, as it’s the best example we’ve seen.
