American legend
When it comes to American performance cars, there is no name that has more impact than a Shelby-derived AC Cobra. Launched in the early 1960s, they used the simple but effective mix of a big engine in a very small car.
A contemporary road test of a prototype noted: “By any standards – today’s and the muscle car era of the late 1960s, or those of 1962 – the car was absolute dynamite. It didn’t have a name as yet but it had style… something that made heads turn.”
Very early examples have seen prices climb into the millions of dollars, while an international mini industry cheerfully turns out replicas.
This example is built by AC Cobra, after it was taken over by Brian Angliss. Known as the MkIV generation, it suns a 302ci (5.0lt) V8 with Borg Warner 5T manual transmission.
The Healey Factory in Melbourne has it on the market at $260,000.
