1986 TVR Tasmin 390SE – today’s tempter

V8 roadster

TVR is one of those marques that we’ve all heard about, but very few of us have managed to get behind the wheel of one.

Over a surprisingly long history (since 1946), it has built a wild variety of sports and performance-focused specials, usually running a powerplant from a larger maker.  Life for a small-volume manufacturer tends to be pretty challenging and the firm has had some interesting ups and downs over the years.

This Tasmin was running an Andy Rouse-tuned Rover V8, claiming 275 horses (205kW), matched to a five-speed manual transmission.

Volume was very low – thought to be as little as 100 cars. There was a subsequent 420Se model.

This example is said to have had a fair amount of recent service work and is with Pennant Hills Auto in Sydney, priced at $45,990.
