1986 HDT VL SS Group A – Todays Brock Tempter

Kiwi Special

The VL Holden Commodore is the fifth and final iteration of the first generation of one of Australia’s best automotive monikers.

Released in February of 1986, the VL succeeded the VK Commodore, and stayed in production until August of 1988.

Changes made over the VL’s predecessor were both cosmetic and mechanical in nature, with the VL scoring aesthetic changes such as an integrated spoiler on the boot lid, and mechanical changes such as the introduction of the Nissan sourced RB30E straight-six engine.

The VL was only ever made available to customers in two body styles; a four-door sedan and a five-door wagon.

Power was derived from the aforementioned RB30E 3.0lt inline six as well as a turbocharged version of the same engine, designated RB30ET, and a 5.0lt Aussie built V8.

The shove from these collective powerplants was sent to the VL’s rear wheels via either a three or four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission.

This particular VL Commodore is build number 162 of 500 of the limited run Holden Dealer Team (HDT) SS Group A.

According to the seller, the Group A has travelled a very low 85,679 kilometres from new and is in excellent, original condition.

The VL SS Group A is $75,000 New Zealand Dollars ($68,600 AUD) and anyone interested in this Brocky special can view the full listing here.
