Reported one-owner 635CSI; always serviced and in great condition
It seemed for years that prices for tidy E24 six-series coupes had been rather undervalued; but these handsome classic coupes have come into their own in recent times and are increasingly finding themselves at the centre of BMW collector interest.
The E24’s centrefold looks were penned by Paul Bracq, who’s CV boasts various heavy-hitters for Mercedes throughout the 60s – including the much-loved Pagoda roof Benz.
The svelte Bavarian coupe is arguably the best execution of BMW’s distinctive ‘sharknose’ design, and early models were hand-built by Karmann before BMW took up assembly in-house.
The six-series was propelled by various inline-sixes, ranging from 2.8lt through 3.0lt, to 3.5lts; and most were specified with four-speed automatic gearboxes, though rare manual examples do exist in four-speed guise as well as conventional and dogleg five-speed units.
The M6 was the ultimate expression of the E24 generation, with its 24-valve engine lifted straight out of the M1 supercar, but they’re incredibly rare and prohibitively expensive for most. The 635CSI is the highest-attainable spec for most of us, and even includes some local motorsport provenance; with Jim Richards helming one to victory in the 1985 Touring Car Championship.
The red 635CSI on sale here is a reported one owner car, who ensured the vehicle was always serviced and maintained at a high level.
The motor, transmission and differential are all in perfect condition, according to the listing; with the car described as a great cruiser that’s quiet, comfortable and economical.
The pictures indicate the car to be in good condition throughout, with and intact and fair exterior; and an unmarked interior free of any significant damage save for some light creasing on the leather seats.
The E24 makes for a great useable cruising classic, and faces increasing collector interest whilst still being in the realm of affordability.
This handsome sharknose coupe is based in Victoria and is listed for $32,500.
