Very original Series III TRX on the market: enthusiast-owned and very well-kept
Datsun’s 910-generation Bluebird was originally launched in 1981, although arrived in Australia bearing the Nissan badge some time later.
Carrying over much of the outgoing 200B’s mechanicals, the Aussie Bluebirds were slightly down-spec compared to their native Japanese siblings which gained independent rear suspension and electronic fuel injection.
The TRX was launched in 1982 as a sports-oriented trim level, which featured optional front air dam, centre-mount aerial, 15″ alloy wheels, rear spoiler, bolstered seats and rear disc brakes.
The Series II update arrived in 1983, as a minor facelift treating the Bluebird to a new grille and colour-coded bumpers. 1985 marked a more significant update with the Series III’s arrival. The old L20B was replaced with the more modern twin-spark CA20S.
This 1985 Series III Bluebird TRX comes to market finished in Beacon Red over Beige interior, and represents one of around 1000 ever produced, although much less survive to this day.
Overall, the vehicle is in very original and well-preserved condition with some reversible modifications. Paint work is good throughout with some light patina and thin roof paint from age. Glass, plastics and rubber are all in good shape; and while older Nissans are notoriously susceptible to rust – this one is clean with only a few half centimetre bubbles at the bottom corner of rear windscreen, rear beaver panel join, and driver’s door bracket.
The beige interior is in as near as new condition as you’ll likely find, with the current owner making taking great effort in sourcing and replacing any worn trim with new old stock items. Upholstery shows no sags or wear, carpet shows no wear or stains, and the TRX dashboard shows no warps or cracks.
The car is described as mechanically sound with all service items replaced during its current ownership. The seller also states that the CA20S motor came with a number of performance-choking emissions components which have been removed, but may be replaced if the buyer so desires.
A number of spares are also available upon sale, including a complete Z18ET SSS Bluebird turbo manual driveline, if you’d really like to build a Group C tribute.
