1985 Nissan 300ZX Z31 – Todays Tempter

Space-age 80s coupe in great unmolested condition

Nissan’s line of Z-cars have become great collectibles, often had for relative little outlay with genuine GT and sporty credentials.

For purists, it’s the early 240Zs that are the most sought-after for their light and raw experience, but are now getting thin on the ground and are priced as such.

Later 80s Zs are far more affordable, and are handsome and capable grand tourers – based on the later 280Z with upgraded suspension with a longer and wider stance.

By this-generation, about to be replaced by the Z32 in 1989, the Z-car had lost much of its sporty edge but was positioned as a more luxury-oriented cruiser.

In naturally aspirated guise; the cars were fitted with a 3.0lt V6 with a modest 124kW power output, but factory turbo models yielded a portly 208kW.

Transmission options included either a five-speed manual or four-speed auto. Locally-delivered cars came with a T-top roof.

This car looks to be an Australian-delivered car, with the targa roof and 2+2 seating layout.

It’s got a five-speed manual and looks to be in great condition for its age.

No odometer reading is stipulated in the listing, and it’s not clear if it’s the turbo version or not – but judging from the car’s condition, it could be a plum!

The interior is clean and free of tears, rips and wear – with all factory HVAC and stereo in place.

Exterior-wise the red paint looks near new with plenty of lustre set off by factory alloy wheels.

For a listed $10,500, this is a very useable and affordable classic that should hold its value and provide much enjoyment throughout its ownership.

The car is based in Victoria, and you can check out the full listing here!
