1985 Mitsubishi Cordia GSR – Todays Tempter

Very rare original Cordia Turbo: logbook history and 180,000ks - try finding another

Mitsubishi’s GSR arrived on the market in 1984, amidst a swelling market of high-po turbocharged pocket rockets.

There was plenty of competition in the market, even from Mitsubishi’s own rear-drive Starion – but the front-drive 1.8lt turbo Cordia boasted a respectable 110kW power output at the time, and came with fully independent suspension, a quality interior wrapped up in an aerodynamic body and a reasonable level of standard kit.

Matched against its own siblings; the Cordia was nearly a full second quicker to 100km/h than its more famous rear-drive Starion stablemate, and proved to be a capable driver’s car – one of the best front-drivers of the time.

Road testers from the period attested to the turbocharged Sirius engine’s refinement, and the fact that its local launch was held at Winton Raceway spoke volumes in Mitsubishi’s sporting confidence.

Today, they’re not as well-known as their Starion sibling – despite being almost $10,000 cheaper back in the day with superior performance. But it was a Wheels Car of the Year finalist and, we reckon, are deserving of a little more recognition.

This 1985 model Cordia GSR is a rarity, in itself and its exceedingly unfettled-with condition.

The listing indicates 183,805 kilometres on the odometer, backed up by genuine Mitsubishi logbook history.

The car presents in great unrestored condition throughout with the spare wheel and tire never utilised. The car does have a few additions: new turbo timer, Bluetooth stereo with GPS and reverse camera – but perhaps ask the seller if he still has the original to go with it.

The paint looks a little sun-faded in spots but the interior look factory-fresh.

We can’t remember the last time we saw one of these, especially in this outstanding condition.

It’s listed for $19,500, which we expect may be hard to justify for some – but try finding another…

The car is based in New South Wales, check out the full listing here!
