HDT ‘Code 333’ automatic VK Calais Director: perfect condition with 12 months rego
The VK range was topped by the luxuriously-appointed Calais which gained creature comforts such as electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, and velour interior.
Simultaneously, the good folk at HDT – with Peter Brock co-sign – were churning out various special sporty models such as the SS, SS Group Three, and then the now-highly desirable VK Group A.
But for the more comfort-inclined corporate customers, HDT offered their more obscure Director models.
Most were built to order and while they were based on the range-topping Calais, could be optioned up to double the price of a new Calais.
The appeal was their understated grace in comparison to the other wild-winged Brock vehicles; some customers wanted a Brockie but didn’t want everyone to know about it – or in some cases, it was just easier to point to what looked like a Calais with wheels when the boss asked about your new car.
Few HDT Directors were alike given their built-to-order nature and expansive options list. Customers could spec the T5G five-speed, sunroof, Scheel seats, various bodykit options, suspension, wheels and more!
To gain the fabled HDT build plate, the customer had to tick a certain amount of boxes – but your HDT Director could ultimately look anywhere in between mild to wild.
This 1985 Holden Calais HDT VK errs on the mild side, looking like little more than a standard Calais with HDT wheels, grille and spoiler.
Look a little closer, and noting the ‘333’ coded on the build plate – it turns out to be an incredibly well-kept HDT VK Director.
Code 333 denotes an automatic gearbox mated to the 5.0lt V8 (Code 334 denoted manual Calais).
The VK Director has travelled 131,308kms over its life and is incredibly well-kept and in exceedingly original condition. The listing describes the car as in “perfect condition in every way” with all electrics working.
It looks incredibly original and hard to fault in the photos, and seems well-priced at $34,900.
The Director is based in New South Wales, and you can check out the full listing here!
