1985 Ferrari 156/85 Formula 1 car for sale

Car #28, one half of Ferrari’s 1985 F1 team, is for sale in Switzerland

Swiss car dealers, Loris Kessel SA, are offering for sale – amongst various collectible late-model Ferraris – none other than the 1985 Ferrari 156/85 #28 car from the ’85 Formula 1 season.

No price is listed, so you’d best contact them directly if you happen to be an interested buyer.

Born at the height of the 80s turbo era, the Tipo 156/85 was powered by Ferrari’s dry-sumped  twin-turbo 1.5lt 120° V6 which produced a white-knuckled 671kW in qualifying specification – wrapped a package that weighed around 558kgs.

We’ve actually featured this car and its twin back in 2007, then-owned by Sydney’s Guido Belgiorno-Nettis who was lucky enough to own both the #27 and the #28 car.

The #27 car (chassis 079) was driven by Michele Alboreto throughout the 1985 season, and showed promise with title contending points by the mid-season, though various turbo, gearbox failures cost him dearly in the closing rounds of the season, with McLaren’s Alain Prost ultimately taking title.

Car #28, this car (chassis 082), was initially driven by Frenchman Rene Arnoux, but was sacked sensationally after the opening round for alleged substance abuse. Sweden’s Stefan Johansson took the reins; driving the car to two podiums at Canada and USA rounds.

It had been on the market for a year or so prior to Belgiorno-Nettis purchasing the car around 12 years ago.

Between then and now, the car has found its way to Switzerland where it’s currently being offered to market.

While not as famous its #27 twin, the car is a carbon copy to Alboreto’s chassis 079 car, and would be a fantastic cornerstone to any motorsport collection – or follow in its former owner’s footsteps and race it yourself!
