1984 Ford ZK Fairlane – Todays Luxo Tempter

Quite a lot of car for the money

The Ford ZK Fairlane is the second iteration of the third generation of one of Australia’s best locally built full-size luxury sedans.

Based on the XE Falcon, the ZK was first released in March of 1982, replacing the outgoing ZJ, and stayed in production until October 1984.

Changes made over its predecessor were mostly cosmetic in nature, and included a new grille and tail light design.

However, big changes were made to the ZK’s range of engines that could be optioned with the vehicle, most notably the venerable 5.8lt V8 was no longer available to customers.

This was part of Ford’s desire to drop bent-eight donks from locally produced cars. As a result of this, not only was the 5.8lt scrapped, but also the 4.9lt V8.

In addition, the ZK also scored four link ‘Watt’s Linkage’ rear suspension with rear coil springs, which was said to vastly improve both ride and handling.

This particular ZK is an ’84 model and, according to the seller, the vehicle has travelled an original 250,000 kilometres from new.

The seller adds that the vehicle has been beautifully kept and has been converted to a duel fuel system.

The ZK is $7200 and anyone interested in this opulent Aussie classic can view the full listing here
