Cheap classic with rego, a straight body and plenty of mechanical maintenance
Datsun’s 910 Bluebird, while launched in 1981, arrived in Australia as the Nissan Bluebird some time later.
Australian cars were slightly down-spec on their native Japanese siblings which gained independent rear suspension and electronic fuel injection. We did, however, get initially the biggest 2.0lt L-series motor until 1985 when production switched to the 2.0lt CA20.
Nissan Australia uniquely offered a TR-X model, which were distinguished by a sportier trim, optional front air dam, 15″ alloy wheels, smaller rear spoiler and bolstered seats.
This 1982 Bluebird TR-X Series 1 is fully operational and in running condition.
The car comes with full rego paid until August 2019, and presents as original with an updated Series 3 front end.
The car bears a five-speed manual and the single-carburetted L20B engine has almost had a full reconditioning; with fully reconditioned cylinder heads, new timing chain and tensioner, new gaskets and seals everywhere, new water pump, new hoses and clamps, new thermos fans, new fuel pump and much more (seriously, you’ll have to check the full listing…).
The interior is fully original down to the working radio and tape deck, and the body is straight and well aligned.
The seller does point out that the car could use a few things however: the original paint is wearing thin and could use a respray. There is also some rust present in the usual Nissan spots: low down in both rear quarters, both rear window channels, around the boot and lower driver’s front guard (the seller has attached various photos detailing rust locations).
Overall, much of the mechanical work has been done, and it’s a solid project car that’s nearly complete.
And for $7,000 listed, anyone willing to do some work at the panel shop could end up with a very tidy and rare classic!
The car is based in Queensland, check out the full listing here!
